Thirty Day Trial #1: Unity RPG

Today is the kick-off day for my very first Thirty Day Trial. What is a Thirty Day Trial? A Thirty Day Trial is a challenge I give to myself to develop a game within 30 days. A bit like a game jam. However, each trial I’ll endeavour to challenge myself in new ways. A new game engine or platform, a new game genre, or some other wacky constraint or variable. I will also be limiting myself to freely available tools and resources (sometimes ones that are on their own 30 Day Trials). Throughout the challenge I will drop progress reports and share screenshots of how the development process is going. At the end I will share some final thoughts about the challenge including things I learned or what I thought about any new engine or tools I used.

So what is the first challenge? My first Thirty Day Trial will be to develop an RPG within the Unity game engine.

Challenge Rating:

Unity:

I have quite a bit of experience working in Unity both professionally and on many of my hobby and game jam projects. I don’t expect there to be many issues with working with the game engine.

RPG:

I’ve always loved RPGs and have long wanted to make my own. My PC is filled with past hobby RPG projects that were not finished. I’m hoping this challenge will finally force me to finish one. RPGs can be quite content heavy, so this will be the risky aspect of this challenge.

Check back here throughout the 30 days to see my progress reports or follow me over on Twitter for updates as I work.
